Alternatives to donating via credit card

The OpenAustralia Foundation is a very small charity, and we need to get the most value for every minute of staff time and every dollar we spend. We prefer to receive donations via credit card if at all possible, as this option has the least administrative overhead for us.

Every step of the process is automated, including sending a receipt at the time of donation, and a summary at the end of the financial year showing all your donations throughout the year to make claiming your tax deduction easier.

We realize that there can be security concerns around providing your credit card details online. However, we never see your credit card details, and nor do our providers Raisely, and Donorbox. Your credit card details are only ever seen by Stripe.

Stripe has been audited by a PCI-certified auditor and is certified to PCI Service Provider Level 1. This is the most stringent level of certification available in the payments industry.

If it’s at all possible for you, we’d ask you to please help us out by donating via credit card or Direct Debit (see below), as this helps us to make sure that we get the most possible value from your donation.

However, we realise that this isn’t an option for everyone, so we have two alternatives methods: direct bank transfer and cheque.

Why don’t we take donations via PayPal?

We used to have Paypal but every year, like clockwork, they, without warning or reason, locked our account and made us go through hours of administrative overhead (things like proving our charitable tax status again and again, sending them letters on letter-headed paper), along with poor communication of their needs we had enough. Unfortunately this is not an uncommon experience for people who take donations via Paypal.

All of this has proved too much of an administrative overhead for a tiny organisation like ours.

We do realise that Paypal is convenient for many people, but the time and cost for us to process donations via PayPal makes this option infeasible for us.

Donation via Direct Debit

From a Donation Page or Widget

To make a regular contribution via direct debit via our donation page for periodic (monthly or annual) contributions, pick AU Direct Debit as your payment method. The direct debit is automatically and securely set up by Stripe. Please note that direct debit setup takes up to 3 business days, you’ll receive confirmation as soon as it’s successfully set up.

Donation via direct bank transfer
